Wordless Wednesday from Williamsburg

  Last week I popped over to Williamsburg, VA and walked the streets of Colonial Williamsburg.  A trip to Colonial Williamsburg is never boring no matter the time of day or the season.

 Some building are illuminated with candles or spot lights.


My favorite thing to look at during the winter months are the wreaths.  The adorn most doors and no one is alike.

 Some have swag in addition to the wreaths and others are strictly just wreaths.

Two doors why not two wreaths?

All of the wreaths in keeping with the traditions and customs of the time frame are natural, easily accessible items. So definitely  evergreens, fruit and even feathers.

To see the doors does not cost an admission fee but, you may just want to pay to see how the inside is decorated too.

Fall Bucketlist

I don't need to make a bucketlist I have children.  The children are always submitting their requests to me.  Each season and even regardless of the season.  Sometimes they try to use the season as an excuse to request something or go somewhere.  

I like to take it easy when the season changes.  I don't need to run out the gate to a pool on the first day of summer.  Nor do I need to build a snowman when winter hits.  There will be plenty of time to do it so there's no point of stressing with a list.

  What I would like to do this fall in no specific order.

1.  Go to ColonialWilliamsburg. I have been several times but never during Halloween time but they have some amazing wreaths to look at.

2.  A corn maze would be fun for everyone

3.  Last year I went apple picking and that was a fun experience for my little ones.  I would love to check out the trees again and of course the donuts and cider are just a bonus.

4.  Carve a pumpkin.  This year we picked up a dremel so let's see what happens with that.

5.  Visit some more state parks and check out those leaves!

There I have made a list.  One I may or may not follow but it's there for bragging rights.  Fall is all about leaves, apples and pumpkins.  I promise I will partake in viewing or consumption of all the appropriate fall season necessities.

Does drinking pumpkin lattes count?  If so strike that off a bucketlist because I have nailed it.

Wordless Wednesday

  Well we went to Colonial Williamsburg again this past weekend.  Squeezed out one more trip as our membership expires at the end of the month.  What I didn't know and what we were fortunate to have come at the right day was the illumination.  We have always gone during the day and left at closing or before that.  Never have we been there to see the lights, fires or candles.

We got there in the early evening as the sun was going down .  It was soo nice outside at 70° in December!

 We were staying for an evening show at The Capital!

As the darkness approached candles were visible in the windows.

Then the show was about to start!

Fire, drums and fifes, rifles!  Soldiers marching and the action is about to begin!

A stroll down the street was a new sight to us as most of the houses had lights in the windows!

Although we didn't participate; ice skating was going on as if we were in upstate NY in the middle of winter. YES, people we have ice skating here in December in 70°!

  It was a great experience.  I saw so many pictures via instagram and can't wait to renew our membership to catch more glimpses of times, seasons or holidays I missed out on this year @colonialwmsburg.

Wordless Wednesday

  We bought a pass the last time we stayed in Williamsburg for +Colonial Williamsburg  so we decided to go one last time for the year.  I like this time of year as much as the spring.  When you visit Colonial Williamsburg multiple times you get the opportunity to see different things, performances, entry into a different home and even how the spruce up the homes be it wreaths in the winter or beautiful blossoms in the garden in the spring.

  So today I am sharing with you the variety of door displays to include wreaths and trimmings.  If you look closely you will see so many varieties of items.  From shoes, to iceskates, artichokes, apples, peppers and oranges.

  My family had a great time walking around looking at the sights and catching a little bit of history in action.  We even might have walked away with a bit more knowledge then what we arrived knowing.

Wordless Wednesday

I have been outside a lot this summer.  More this year than any other.  Maybe because my little ones are older or I am getting older and appreciate it more.  Here are some scenes from our outdoor visits.

We have visited multiple state parks, our local Botanical Gardens multiple times, the local park, Colonial Williamsburg and the beach.  I think the more time we spend outside the more comfortable my kids are getting.  The bugs bother them less and they are getting used to seeing natural beauty.  I hope they see the beauty and learn to respect it as they grow.  Picking up after themselves, minimize their waste and enjoying it.  

  They are always pointing out a bird or mushroom even a rare flower gets their attention so I know they understand that it shouldn't be taken for granted.
