Letter B at Preschool

Although we just started last week we are on a new week with a new letter.  I am going to play it by ear as to when we stay on a new letter and when we move on.  We will also review if not daily weekly on what we have learned so far.

Little man has been informally in and around school at home for a couple years so I expect him to pick up things quicker.

He knows colors so we won't spend a lot of time on that but knows the names of shapes but maybe can't identify all of them; so we will work on those.

His vocabulary is beyond his years so we will work on phonics and letter recognition.

This week will be fun as the letter B is plentiful in our home.

Tracing is the best way to learn! B is for butterfly.  Learning shapes along the way to make pictures is fun too.

Adding pictures of b items to his little B book.  These are perfect for his hands and based on the pictures he can read it himself.

Even simple tasks such as scissor skills need to be taught.  This will be a more interesting challenge for me as he is left handed and all I can do is show him finger placement and wait till he finds a comfortable position.  For this activity though he kept changing his hands.  I don't know what that was all about.

I think we will finish the week with letter B as there are plenty of things for us to do outside.  We have yet to take advantage of biking, playing ball, bouncing and badminton!

Week 1 Letter A school complete

I won't be able to do a field trip every week but will try to grab one where I can and even if it's to our local store we will make it an adventure!

Its a little too early for apple picking but since we were on letter A it only seemed fit to pick an apple.  We headed to out local grocery store where we picked a few varieties.  I allowed him to pick one from each pile so we could compare the size, color and taste.

This tasting was huge as he is a picky eater.  He likes the red delicious and Jonagold! Peanutbutter is not necessary and he will eat the skin.

Apples come from trees before the store so we made this apple tree!

After we dissected the apple we made a picture of all the parts!

We also made applesauce cookies this week which he did make, eat and enjoy!

Letter A was a good productive week for us!  I hope your week was productive too!

Sticky Treats (review)

I finally made a batch of popsicles with my new review product.  Find the recipe we tried here.  I can only vouch for a sample of it as the three that I made were gobbled up by 3 kids.  Thankfully I still have a fruit blend available.

My take on these popsicle molds is its nice to have the ability to stand the mold and fill it.  The mold snaps into the base for easy filling as well as they can be placed on the counter.  The two bonus pushup pops  I place in a cup and fill then place in the freezer.  The pushup pops are definitely more kid friendly.  Less drops or atleast the drips are more contained.  Little hands can hold the popsicle sticks but there will be drips.

The seal was great after the popsicles were frozen that I needed to run them under some water to loosen the tops and the mold to separate as well.

Let's Play Ball (review)

You never know when you will need a ball pump.  Having numerous kids means I have plenty of balls laying around my house.  It's not only frugal to fill your own balls versus buying new one. Pumping up a ball is not as hard as you may think or atleast what I thought.

This pump comes with 3 needles and adaptive parts for various sized balls and valves. This pump is also light weight making it portable for ball games or trips to the park.

Day 2 School

You know when your trying to teach your kids it pays off when at night they request more school, tell you they had a good day or want to learn more.

My son is pointing out A's everywhere
That's a proud moment for me as I know he's retaining what I'm teaching and he understands.  I know he is enjoying his one on one and is learning along the way so I declare it a win win!

A few items on the desk change and a few stay the same.  I may put in new sheets in his folder but we work on that everyday.  His tracing/writing will progress with repetition.

We got outside today as we usually do but it was with a purpose today.

We picked up some A for acorns and leaves on our nature walk.

Our acorns went to a project!

It is not the letter A but it is the first letter of his name!

A day at home should be fun and learning along the way is just a bonus.

Preschool Day 1

Its a new year.  I revolve around the school year to teach at home because I have a more organized schedule then.  This year I am working with one preschooler and as my newly released little one was tested prior to admission she was above and beyond in most areas which makes this momma feel great!

To know I taught her so much and was responsible for the basic foundations of her learning is the biggest accomplishment I could have ever done.  So I know get to move on and focus on my last child.

He is is young and a boy.  I have learned in the last year that what worked for my daughter does not work for him.  So our learning will be a little different but with some tweaking we will accomplish a lot bit by bit.

This year we will focus on alphabet, numbers and shapes through structure and play.  We will incorporate worksheets, hands on learning, field trips and a lot of one on one to get to our end result of a great year of learning.

Today we met the letter A.  This week we will focus on letter A but will get familiar  with all letters.

Our day will be anywhere from 2-3 hours of various activities ranging from a walk, coloring, craft, reading books, playing games, snack time, computer time and worksheets.

We may only spend 5 minutes in one area and 30 minutes in another and that's ok too.  If you force to much it will not be fun to either of us so I glide with him to each project.  He knows I have plenty planned and wants to see what else there is.

First stop is the desk to see letter A items and books.  I may stick a game up here or pull that out later.

Today we read an A related book.

Had a letter hunt for the letter A.

Made muffins (nope not an A but, apron is for A).

Matched letters on flashcards.

If you ask him he had a great day at school with his mom.  He also liked his "green" muffins; not just because he made them but because surprisingly spinach and bananas make a good muffin!

Dry Hair Clean Hair (review)

I was recently tried out TRESemme Dry Shampoo and can honestly say it was a first experience for me but something I was very curious about.

My Fresh Start TRESemme Dry Shampoo is a new formula.  It is an aerosol can and is 5.3 ounces.  This shampoo boasts of refresh and revived hair and I agree that it does!

The basis of a dry shampoo is to clean your hair allowing you to feel fresh without the use of water.  This would make your hair washing experience quicker.  No more waiting for it to dry before styling.

Directions are printed on the side of the can and are easy to follow.  Shake, spray towards roots, massage and comb.  My first impression comes from the amazing smell.  That alone makes me want to use it often.  I sprayed my roots per the direction and was alarmed at the color on my dark hair but after I massaged it in it was not visible any more.

After I used the spray you can visibly see the oil has been absorbed.  Your hair smells better and there is an overall more clean appeal to your hair.  Even the next day my hair was soft and still smelled good.

I was provided this product complimentary my testing purposes and all opinions are my own.
