All The Money in the World (movie review)

  I concluded my birthday with a late showing of All the Money in the World.  This drama runs for over 2 hours and is rated R.  It's cast includes Michelle Williams, Christopher Plummer and Mark Wahlberg.

  This movie is based on a true story around Jean Paul Getty.  He founded the Getty Oil Company and was known to be the richest man.  This was why his grandson was kidnapped.  The initial ransom was a demand of 17 million.

  Despite all the begging and pleading from  his son and his wife he refused to pay a cent.  He made plenty of excuses to justify his decision.  He had 14 other grandchildren and if he paid for one, the others may get kidnapped for ransom as well.  He also would make no money on the transaction which is all he cared about.  More money.

  Things make a turn for the worse when. The kidnappers don't receive their demands.  They decide to send proof of how serious they are straight to the newspaper. 

  I will end my summary on that sentence!  I thought this was a good movie.  I wasn't aware of the complete storyline prior to walking in.  I only knew it was based on a true story so some of the content surprised me. 

  It was a long movie.  I would like to say it goes by quick but it didn't.  The storyline was easy to follow and I was entertained through the movie.  There were some parts that could have got cut out and you still would have been able to follow.    The end was exciting because I truly didn't know what was going to happen. Of course I was rooting for a safe return but if the ransom doesn't get paid what could the outcome possibly be?

   It was nice to get out and see an adult movie but one of the next movies I want to see is Paddington 2! 

The Silent Wife (book review)

  I recently finished The Silent Wife and although it wasn't suggested by anyone I thought I would share a summary and review the book for anyone interested.

  The Silent Wife by A.S.A Harrison is a entertaining thriller.  It is a book you need to read to the end and you will want to read to the end.

  The book has two main charters Jodi and Todd.  Both are successful professionals.  Living together in a gorgeous home with waterfront views.  She keeps the house clean and has dinner ready for him every night.  He comes home and half recognizes and appreciates her.  She knows this in the back of her mind but accepts it without putting up too much of a fight.

  I will not ruin the book for you but urge you to check it out.  I will however provide you with teasers.  How do you feel when your husband goes fishing for the weekend?  What would you do if you found sleeping pills for a lady in your Husbands pocket?  Revenge can be entertaining.

  Jodi makes you shake your head as she see what she accepts and tolerates.  Todd makes you shake your head as he does what he want with a lot of uncertainty.  Sometimes I find myself daydreaming of the various situations and I read and I think cheers to you Jodi.  It's not always about rooting for the girl though.  The underdog gets their own set of cheerleaders too, right?

  There is an affair but by a small technicality maybe not really.  Someone gets pregnant, someone gets hurt  but I won't tell.

  What I am telling is that the movie started filming the beginning of this year and I'm going to be at the theater when it comes out!

Shut In (movie review)

 Friday evening due to a sold out show and a late lunch had me checking out the movie Shut In.

  The thriller Shut In runs for 1 hour 31 minutes.  Get there there in time to see some great previews for future thriller movies!! Hint Wick and vampires to come in 2017! The movie is rated PG-13 and the cast includes Naomi Watts and Oliver Pratt.

  Two parents have come to the decision that it's better to send their troubled teen away for a bit but an accident has the teen coming back to reside.  As a single parent and psychologist the stress becomes unbearable again and after this ice storm passes another decision has been made to place the teen in a care facility.

    This is only the beginning as one of her clients a boy named Tom arrives at her doorstep Mary wants to help but its too late and he disappears at the height of the storm.  The movie follows Mary as she worries about the missing boy Tom, takes care of her son Stephen and struggles with her own sanity.

  Follow Mary as she tries to figure out what goes bump in the night.  Of course you have the theatrical music to keep the excitement alive.  A few spots to make you jump.  However the whole movie had a plot to follow.  Your concerned for the single parent , for the sick son, for the missing boy and the storm that's approaching. Watch closely as this movie presents a lot of oh moments as you connect the dots.

  Definitely a great movie to go see this weekend.  Save some money and catch a matinee if you can and then maybe grab some lunch or dinner before or after.  This movie was entertaining enough I would rent it to watch.

Ink and Bone (book review)

Ink and Bone by Lisa Unger
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Ink and Bone was selected off the shelf by myself on a spontaneous trip to the library to shut my oldest child up. She had run out of books and was begging to get new books. I picked this book based on the title alone as I was not familiar with this author. Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith.

The story is based in a small mystery town in good old upstate NY. The story circles around one man character Finley. Finley is a young women trying to get an understanding of what is expected of her and still try to hold on to being her own unique person. She covers her body with tattoos. Tattoos of her dreams, her story, the unsolved mysteries of her life. Of course her close relationship with the tattoo artist doesn't hurt.

This is a book you need to pay attention to when you read it. Some parts as you read it don't make sense until the end. The end fits all the pieces together and makes a complete picture.

I don't enjoy reading a book that flips to different scenes and different people every other chapter. It's hard to jump back in if I put the book down for a period of time and then pick it back up.

I did like the story as it was descriptive enough for me to visual the whole story. There was enough mystery to keep me wanting to read and solve the mysteries along the way. I liked the realistic main character. She was believable. A young 20 women whom thinks she knows everything or feels independent enough but still needs help. Smart enough to admit she needs help but strong enough to step out on limb to make an attempt to do what she needs to do.

I felt closure at the end of the book with the characters in it and feel like there's room and a lead into another book which I would read.

Eye in the Sky (movie review)

  I looked over my options for the week and decided Eye in the Sky was the movie for me for the week.  This drama/thriller is rated R and runs for 1 hour 42 minutes.  The cast to pull this movie off included Helen Mirren, Alan Rickman and Aaron Paul to name a few.

  Having been in the military I do like to occasionally watch a military type film.  This one was no let down.  We are all aware of the invisible eyes of the government watching us.  What we don't know is how often, when, where and what capabilities do they really have to do it.

  Our modern times have led us to make some hard decisions.  Human life has seemed to decrease in value in the eyes of others.   In the defense of a nation, country or crowded landmark  how many should die, do die or could die if a situation is diverted or not?

  This movie keeps you entertained from the beginning of the movie with high tech technology like drones and their secret pilots on land, innocence learning how to perfect hula hoop action and selling you wares at the corner to provide income for your family.  We all have our daily routines. Activities that we do to pass the time or make money.

  Without making everyone paranoid we do not live in a safe world.  We are not free from harm and we don't know who is watching.

  Sit back and enjoy this movie.  Take a peak at the military and government in action saving people from a bigger problem.  An unimaginable situation.  This movie should make you think of the consequences of your own actions.  What one little decision did you make that made a difference?

The Library At Mount Char (book review)

  This fiction book was the first book by Scott Hawkins.  The story is a combination of thriller, suspense, fantasy and mystery.  The story starts out with a series of characters that all play a different role in a larger takeover.  Each character is like a soldier with their own speciality.  They study a focused area and advance to the next level. Making each of them stronger and a more dangerous group of individuals the more they read.

  Carolyn is visibly the main character in the story.  She is in charge of learning languages and has a secret mission of recruiting.  She is not the leader of the said "soldiers", she too is just a soldier.  However her self declared job is a main focus of the story.  She is the good student.  She goes above and beyond her job of reading in order to complete a bigger mission. 

  The characters seem to be a hodge podge of misfits if not misguided unsupervised teenagers.  Although I am not very sure how old they really were.  They did however lack in the fashion department as their was a tutu, bicycle shorts and leg warmers mentioned more than once.

  Now imagine if the world you lived in was slightly different.  Not flying cars and robots but having a pet lion or food falling from the sky.  Does that sound safe or inviting?  Would you be concerned enough to call the helicopters and tanks in?  This story will make you wonder about the future of the country, or universe.

  I invite you to entertain your conscious.  Read this book and let your imagination flow.  Follow the story closely as there are some twists and turns that require your undivided attention.
