It's OK (by me)

It's that time again. A time to reflect on what we did a little less then perfect but, who cares!  Shake it off! It's ok! I'm going to play along with airingmylaundry today as I tell you what items/events/activities are OK by me.

  It's OK that my kids have had candy everyday because of Halloween.  The received a lot and the day is coming where they will get tired of it and it will be off their minds.  Never have they ever eaten all of it.

  It's OK that my daughter has caught up with that new series Stranger Things.  She put a lot of dedication into watching the first series. She had it playing while she washed the dishes, and had it on constantly in her room.  I'm so proud to see she can make a commitment if she really wants to.

  It's OK that I got teary eyed when my daughter begged me to go to her Veterans Day program at school.  I'm glad I went.  We stood up for the branch we represented and there were only two others from the Air Force.

  It's OK that we got a new cable box and all those DVR shows I was going to watch are gone forever. 

    It's OK the store didn't have any bread when I was there.  Hamburger rolls seemed to be a real hit with my youngest. He ate his lunch in 5 minutes and cant wait for lunch tomorrow!

  Ahhh, OK just breath! I'm ok! Your ok! It's ok! What's one thing that you now realize is ok?
 

Wordless Wednesday (Halloween 2017)

  Every year even if we go to the same places Halloween is different.  The trunks are different at the Trunk or Treats, the festival events are different and even a trip though the neighborhood brings new experiences.  Regardless of all the candy the kids will remember what they were, who they were with and maybe how much they walked.  Candy cravings will fade and I can't wait.

    The hardest part of Halloween is not what candy to eat first, or which house to start at first.

It's what costume to wear!

The festivals are fun because they have so many activities and crafts to do.

Master Gardeners always have such fun crafts.  They glued different leaves on plates and the kids used their imagination to complete the picture. 

No lollipops for these ghosts. These were made from the Sweetgum Tree pods. 

Finale to our night was Trunk or Treat.  I can't say if there was a theme or not but, some of the trunks are so fun no theme is necessary.  

It's extra fun when people match the cars! Hello Mario where's Luigi?

This was my favorite!  Such minimal work but a huge statement!

We went to the circus.

We didn't touch the jellyfish.

Pumpkins were not going to be showed up by some cars!

                

                

  This fun was the weekend before the big day so we had days of Halloween fun!  How did you spend you Halloween or last few days of October?  Did you attend a fall festival?

A Spider for Your Party

I promise this creepy crawler won't crawl off the table.

I picked up my supplies at Dollar Tree and  had items on hand.

He's really easy to assemble and although I didn't eat him my taste testers said he was good.

 1 package of Sno Balls will allow you 2 spiders.

I actually had Tootsie Rolls on hand and used 1 large one cut and rolled into 8 pieces.  (Tootsie rolls are available at Dollar Tree)

2 mini chocolate chips for eyes. I also had these on hand but regular chips would be fine!

I placed 4 legs on each side and inserted them into the body.  For the eyes after persistent pushing were also inserted into a slot.

Do you make little critters for Halloween? This was my first but he was fun and the kids enjoyed it.

Halloween Accessory

  Every outfit has its accessories.  Sometimes it's jewelry.  Maybe a purse, definitely shoes are a must but as we approach Halloween in addition to the candy and costume a candy collector is a must.  I'm not talking about bellies or mouths of monsters or little ponies, ninjas or Moana's.  I'm talking about the vessel to get your candy home.

  A bag!  For older children this is the perfect item to carry the loot.  A bag has handles that are more comfortable when the load is heavier and a bag will definitely aid in ensuring every piece makes it home.

  My daughter was so excited to receive a new bag for her trick or treating experience but way more excited to get to style it .

  She loves to color and design so coloring was right up her alley for a nice afternoons entertainment.

  She's pretty good at starting a job and staying there till it's finished!

  She loves how her new bag came out.  She also loves that it glows in the dark.  That's a nice treat.  Our routine doesn't keep us out too late but, fall does make it get dark sooner.   I love that it's durable and will hold the candy.  The glow part is fun but I also like that she will be able to use this bag again next year!

  The canvas bag came with 3 markers to color the bag.  It has easy to follow instructions.  No need to wash before coloring so your bag will be done quicker!

Indoor Pumpkin Craft

(When you apply a face on an upside down jar think it through first)

  This is an easy way to bring that glow into your house!  My disclaimer: I may or may not be a hoarder.  My littlest one hasn't eaten baby food in years.

For this project I pulled out old glass baby food jars and plastic ones as well.  I didn't know which one would work better so I used one of each.  The plastic leftover cups from fruit may work to depending on the height.

  I  addition to the jars you need:

                            tissue paper (and glue)

                                   paint

  The glass jar was painted.

The plastic jar was glued and scraps of torn tissue paper was applied to it.

Orange was the name of the game since these were supposed to be pumpkins.  Red and yellow paint on the glass jar to give me orange and I layered yellow tissue paper first then red on the plastic jar for an orange glow.

Cutout your faces.

Add your light device under the jar.

You now have indoor pumpkins less the mess, and clean up.

Letter F preschool

  This week little man was learning the letter F.  F is a fun letter.  It makes you describe just as many things as you can find beginning with that letter.  For example f is for fun and food.  So that leads to everything!

This activity has him follow the phrase I read to him and circle the F's.

A basic math sheet.  He is able to count the objects and circle he appropriate number.

He likes to use the dot makers.  For this activity I try to encourage him to make contact with all circles.  So a slow deliberate movement is involved here.

F is for fingerprints.  A ink pad and the letter f!

This is the first page of his workbook.  It changes with each letter but offers a image to trace and  few of the upper and lower case letters to trace.

This was a first for us with this type of worksheet.  Numbers 1-6 with 6 different colors.  He had to color the number the appropriate color.  Of course he cant read the color but, he can identify the numbers.

Lastly was our Frankenstein craft! Super easy craft, seasonal fun and used with all supplies I had on hand.

Letter F is finished and its time for a new letter next week.

Frankenstein is for letter F (craft)

  So we are learning the letter f and I only seems fitting to make an appropriate craft representing the said letter F and in keeping with the season; making it Frankenstein!

He is really easy to make and definitely one "f" related craft I wouldn't have made or thought of in September!

Basic supplies you may already have on hand include:

                    green and black paper

toilet paper roll

a large black pompom

googly eyes

and pipe cleaners! 

Measure your green paper to the wrap around the tube and glue into place.  Cut a small strip of black paper with various jagged edges for the hair line and glue on the top of the tube as well as the eyes.  

I cut the pipe cleaner in half then half again.  I then twisted it and folded to make a t-shape.  I made a hole on each side of the head with the tip of scissors and inserted  them into the sides of the head.

I made stitches for his face.  One large strip with smaller strips placed over them and glued in place.  The mouth is also a black line with more stitches.

Lastly, I popped the black pompom on to the top of the tube to finish it off as his hair!

My son really liked making this.  He likes monsters and shh don't tell him he was learning and perfecting his glue skills, and hand and eye coordination!
