Goodbye 2016

2016 is gone, right?  It can't come back, right?  Because I would hate for it to come back just so I could make the same mistakes again.  In all actuality it just sometimes takes a couple tries to get it right.

Some good things that happened this year:

-one child got her braces removed (yeah it's been a few years).

- I completed 30 days of fitness (another yeah).

-I turned 40 (I have yet to feel if that was a good thing or not but I can't go back with that so I'm just dealing with it).

-I read more books (I did lose count  maybe 15-20 but I'm going to keep track this year).

-joined 3 social groups which greatly help my hermit self come out.

-I did more things solo.  Lol, now after the hermit part you may be confused but, let me tell you I have no problem seeing a movie, hiking, cycling or going out to eat by myself.  I'm scared of people talking to me.  I can go hang out with them as a wallflower.

-cycled 50 miles one day.

A few things I WON'T miss from 2016:

-my lack of patience in everything from kids, driving, life etc.

-anxiety before, during and after events that I attended.  I'm working on getting out there and being more approachable as well as making conversation with people.

-stress fracture I had at the beginning of the year which started at the end of 2015.

-turning 40.

-a few too many arguments with a few too many people.

What did you like the most in 2016?  What did you least like from 2016?

September Ipsy Bag (review)

After research and discussing with several people I signed up at the beginning of the year for Ipsy.  Ipsy is a monthly subscription that is delivered to your door monthly in a cute reusable bag and with a variety of makeup both samples or full size products.

After you sign up you answer various questions about your beauty favorites, process and routines.  What color are your eyes or hair?  Do you wear nailpolish?  Then decide what kind of look you like or what like you want such as classic, edgy or sporty.  Do you use brushes? Use facial cleanser?  Upon the completion of the survey the wheels are in motion to pack your bag for the shipment of the upcoming month.

The bag arrives with about 5 products.  Each month it changes.  I have received a few brushes but its still a different set of items every month.  Even the colors and shades change monthly if you happen to lipstick or eyeshadow for a couple months in a row.

This powerful priming serum by Onomie was 0.17 FL oz. This serum also works as a radiance booster, and tone corrector.  It smells great and I used it one morning without makeup and you could see tiny flecks of gold.  I think it made me look extra alert and energized with fresh skin.  I would purchase this product and try it as a daily skin routine per the directions as a serum.

Teaser is the shade of eyeshadow I received from Dirty Little Secret.  It was 1.5 grams so daily use will not get very far.  It went on evenly and without any clumping.  The shade was more of a beige color.

This face mask by Nuxe was a .50 oz tube.  Directions indicate to apply and wash off for 10 minutes.  Whereas after that time frame my face felt smooth, soft and refreshed.  This is another great smelling product.

Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme at 1.5 grams will give me some super stunning lips that pop for weeks.  I did feel some tingling on my lips that eventually went away.  The lip plumper looks like gloss providing a shine while you wear it.  It looks nice on your lips as just a simple gloss but the softness you feel is undeniable.  I can't say I say or felt plumper but my lips felt great after wearing it so I would purchase this product again just for the lip tingling massage.

Lastly, another great smelling product was some body butter.  I had a .7 oz tub of Inspire by Glow for a cause.  This was thick like body butter and left my skin feeling soft and with a light scent.  There are actually a few more scents and since this one is so nice I would love to try the others.

I am pleased  with what I received in this month's bag and look forward to next month.  Each month $10 is automatically deducted from your account prior to the 1st of month shipment .  You are able to log on early and see what's in your upcoming bag but I hate doing that; I want the surprise if seeing it in person.

If I have convinced you to try out the program sign up now and you should still have time to get the October bag.  I have provided my link for your convenience here.

All opinions stated are my own and I was not paid or compensated in any way.

Fitness plan I

Although I am not posting my daily meals I am still on the fitness train.  I want to share with you not my specific routine but touch base with making goals, having a focus or plan and some apps to help you along the way.

You first need to understand going to the gym doesn't mean muscles.  I also want to point out muscles are not just for men.  They have a point and purpose in your body just like bones and blood.  Going to the gym riding a bike for cardio or lifting weights will not make you bulk up.  Cardio helps your heart maintain its health and lifting some weights help your joints.  Everything has a purpose.

Once you make a plan of action of what you want to get from working out keep this as your mantra!  Print it on pretty paper, laminate it.  Put it above your mirror or on your dresser.  Look at it, say it, use it to defeat your excuses of not working out.  Use this as your motivational crutch.  You may not need the motivation at the beginning but eventually down the road it's bound to happen.  You may stray away from your goals and slipping with an indulgent meal or skipping a workout is fine but don't beat yourself up.  Get back up and train after dinner or the next day.  DON'T fall into the I will workout tomorrow.  Workout today and everyday. You can take a break a day or two but if you don't plan your days off you may get into a downward spiral of missing multiple days.

Good luck to you. You can make changes and take it slow.  You got this!  Make your goals reasonable.  4 lbs, 3 inches.  Work at it seriously.  Devote your time to this goal faithfully and in 2 weeks you will see results!

Finale to Healthy challenge

I have lost track to update you on my finale to the 30 day healthy challenge.  I had an increase to my household which distracted my blog focus on sitting down for the post.  So I will make this post short and sweet.  No food pictures no boring meal by meal plans.

I finished the days off the same way I started.  Hard, focused and with motivation.  No point of finishing off the challenge even if it was 2 days with not a care in the world.  So I still ate in moderation, made healthy choices and worked out to the same level of intensity that I had been.

I do not have the numbers from the starting point and ending point.  However I can see the results and almost don't even need to dwell on inches lost.  If you can actually see them as I posted the fitting of my daughter's pants.   That is definitely an obvious indicator.

I did keep track of the pounds lost.  At one point I had lost about 6lbs.  After that the scale went back and forth.  Ending at a 4 lb weight loss overall for the 30 days.  Not a lot but I gained and toned muscle so I have to accept that.  The muscle mass that I have gained would have also manipulated the inches reading so I will be ok without it.

I debated sharing pictures with you and decided why not.  I shared the food, the exercises and some recipes I might as well show you and before and after.
Lol, I feel like putting one of those disclaimers at the bottom that individual results may vary.  Thank you for your support, motivation and encouragement on my journey to a healthier lifestyle.  I will continue to work on some tweaking goals I have.  I look forward to seeing what else may happen .  This by no means will be easy. The first 30 days was not easy.  I will always have to adhere to a high discipline to maintain my sweet tooth, junk food and over indulging cravings.  I may splurge on some soda, cheesecake, cheesefries and breadsticks to name a few.

Day 26 and 27!!!

Do you know what today is less than a few days from the end.  I can see the finish line and I am so happy to see it.  As I stated earlier I am exhausted at the extra thought it takes to plan a meal however it has gotten easier as I have gone along.

Not to mention I have seen results and if that doesn't encourage a person I don't know what will.  If you feel your pants fitting different and see small changes what your doing can't be wrong.  I feel better and if you feel better you look better!

Day 26
Breakfast: fruit bowl
Lunch: salad
Dinner: chicken with rice and quinoa (Applebee's)
Water 75 oz
Workout rest day

Day 27
Breakfast: cereal with banana
Lunch: bowl of fruit
Dinner: I guess another cheat we ate at Ninjas (Japanese hibachi grill)
75 oz water
Workout: 20 minutes elliptical, abs

3 more days and this journey is over.  I will not miss it but I will follow the plan maybe not as stringent but I will maintain a healthy meal plan, regular exercise and eat my favorites in moderation.  I believe that was my main problem.  I didn't eat in moderation and overate in the not so healthy food groups.  I have never eaten more fruit and vegetables in my life in such a short period of time then the last 30 days.  I have enjoyed making new smoothies and trying a few new dishes.  I know that I will still be able to eat out but I don't need to overeat and I don't need to wash it down with a gallon of sweet tea.  I don't think it will be hard to maintain because I feel so much better now than I did before.

Thank you for following my journey and in a few more days all this accountability will be over.

Lastly on a good note as icing on the cake.  My daughter tried on her new school clothes and a few pair of pants didn't fit her.  I snuck off with them and wiggled into them.  They were a challenge to get over my calf muscles but I was able to pull them up and button them.  I didn't even have to slather in butter or lay on the bed to do it.  With a little more work they will not be as snug as they are now but getting them on is the first step. Yeah, me!!

Day 25!!! Almost done with 30 days

I want to start out with I'm soo glad this is over.  Everyday is a challenge.  Not because it's hard to make healthy choices because that is getting easier than it used to be but because I consciously think about my meals. At breakfast I'm wondering about what I'm going to do about lunch.  Regardless of whether I have healthy food on hand or already made food on hand.  I'm so absorbed on trying to do the right thing.

Well today I had a great workout.  Normally I workout but on cardio machines it's a half hour or 2 machines for 45 minutes. Today I hung out with a machine for an hour! Let me tell you I feel so awesome when I have pushed through an hour on a machine.  I have only done it twice but I need to do it more often.  I feel so accomplished when I look over the numbers of distance and calories.

Breakfast: yogurt, granola and fruit
Lunch: leftover salad with carrots and grapes
Dinner: olive garden 1/2 of all my dish with Water!!!
Water 75 oz
Workout 1 hour on elliptical, weights, abs

I have had two bowls of this new granola I picked up and I was so happy with it. It's delicious but read the ingredients today after breakfast only to have found sugar in the ingredients twice and an olgifructose ingredient.  Not a good sign.  So I will be officially concocting my own recipe based on the healthy ingredients in this granola.

Tonight's dinner was obviously my cheat meal but I happily only ate half of it and my biggest feat was not washing it all down with a sweet tea.  I drank three glasses of water with my meal and had two bowls of salad!

As I wrap up on this challenge.  I am going to continue with padding on recipes and posting workouts.  On twitter I do post some motivation as well as workouts.  My goal is to help if you want, need or are looking for it.

As always thanks for following my journey.

Day 18 of 30

Do you know what is greatly appreciated?  I never knew it before. Never thought this is great!!! Wrinkles! I am not was not a very large person but I like a lot of women had some baby weight lingering around.  I can honestly say after my 3rd child I was less physical then with baby number 4 it was random.

I apparently do better if I'm active.   So anyways my clothes were fitting a little tighter and tighter. I was slowly losing clothes.  Not just pants but shorts too.  It starts with no being able to button them to not being able to squeeze them over my thighs.  I was down to one pair of shorts because I could still button them after I fought to pull them up.  I have worn shorts all week.  I still have a muffin top but, I am able to pull up the shorts better and button all of them so far this week.  The pair I had on today had wrinkles.  Not wrinkles like I needed to iron them but wrinkles as in room in my shorts.  As in I was not a sausage squeezed into my shorts with little room to even slide a finger in between thigh and material.  There was obvious, noticeable roominess. I wasn't even pulling down the crotch every 5 minutes because they stayed!  I know I am not the only one to suffer these issues but I am just sharing with you my victory.

I still have a little less than 2 weeks left.  I can not believe how a small tweak in my diet can actually make a difference.  I have increased my workouts to though.  I used to workout about 3 or 4 days.  I'm now at 6 days and it's a focused hard workout.  So my motivation ad attention to that area is probably helping too.

I didn't concoct a number I wanted to reach as most want to.  Why bother because then you get focused on that and the obsession becomes disappointment when you don't make the number.  I am however happy and thrilled that #1 I don't need to go buy bigger clothes and #2 I can see the difference in how my clothes fit.

I would have never thought I could actually complete this challenge. 30 days is a long time to skip desserts and eat a healthier cleaner diet.  I did eat fruits and vegetables but not to this extent.  I am sure my diet consisted of more not so healthy items than healthy items.  I do feel confident that I can maintain this healthier way of life.

I would love to help, encourage or motivate anyone that is considering this challenge.  I am not a professional but I am a normal plain mom that has seen light at the end of the tunnel.  I can hold the flashlight as you travel down it.  I am working on making some quick fitness videos,  can post random training for you to do on a daily basis and you can easily Google healthy meal ideas or skim through my various dishes.  After this challenge ends I will still continue to post recipes both the good and the bad but maybe more of the good now.

Good luck in your future in wherever it takes you.  Of course please stick around and see how I finish this challenge and then maybe I will start another and you can join in.

Breakfast: peach, muffin
Lunch: spinach with chick peas and black beans and carrots.
Dinner: leftover salmon. ( always leftovers here- still potato salad - I'll eat tomorrow.
I have been out everyday this week is reason I miss meals or eat bad. But leftovers or eggs like last night help.
water 75 oz
workout: walked about 3 miles in trails. (Outside cardio all week so far)

Day 13, 14

Day 13

It is getting harder and easier but I can see physical changes.  You can't get discouraged when you can see the improvements.  If nothing else this is the biggest motivating factor there is.  A big hurdle for me is not just the eating at home and making healthy meals or skipping junk food it's the choosing the easy road.  Making an excuse to eat something I don't need to, eating something because it's there.  When take out is brought home its hard to deny, when we usually eat somewhere on a specific day it's hard.  When I am spending the day with my kids out and about (I may pack them a lunch but get real skimpy on my own meal.  It's not hard to fix all these areas but it's just easier said then done.

Breakfast: peach oatmeal smoothie
lunch: leftovers hotdog, potato salad, squash
Snack: pineapple
Dinner: 1/2 chicken parmesan sub, cheesefries and a hmmm chocolate covered cannoli!!!! Now if I eat half today and half tomorrow how does that equate to cheat meal? I haven't eaten all of it yet.......
75 oz water
workout weights

Day 14
Breakfast : scrambled eggs with garlic, chicken and spinach. A bowl of fruit
Lunch: nothing
Dinner: taco and rice sweet tea
75 oz water
workout: rest day

Meals have been skipped and not so good meal choices have been made.  For the last couple days and a couple more for the next couple days will be not so good choices.  I know this because #1 I'm catching up with posting my days. (I'm actually on day 16 even though I'm writing 13 and 14 plus I will be indulging in 1/2 price cheesecake.)

My workouts are stable if not over what I normally do but that alone I am witness to as helping the whole overall process.  I confidently say I will not make a poor meal choice because I missed a meal.  I miss a meal and keep it moving.  I will not over eat or grab the wrong thing but not eating is not good either.  You need to eat and I know this!!  I have done good and I have just hit a couple hiccups. Game on as I finish this 30 days hard and strong!

Keep watching and follow this ride!!! I'm real and living this out and proving it can be done! Thank you for your support and encouragement.

** UPDATE*** I actually never got to eat the whole cannoli as my husband ate the other half.  That took care of that!

Day 11 of 30

Ooh I am so close to the halfway mark I am just excited for that!  Nothing to momentarily will happen but I will have made it and have a couple weeks to go!  Today I will say was a good day too.

I got up early today and stayed awake instead of going back to asleep so this allowed a few more things to get done before the kids woke up and before we went to the gym.  I even got to the gym earlier today!  Breakfast was a peach and cream oatmeal.  It was very creamy without the flavor of cream but very good I must say!  I did skip the topping which would have probably fixed that problem.  I used fresh peaches which when cut up and cooked in the oatmeal it exploded with juicy goodness when you bit into it.

Lunch was leftovers from Outback. Steak and potatoes.  I  usually very bad with leftovers.  I will eat out and bring the food e and not eat it then weeks later different I out to eat.  Even food I have made at home doesn't necessarily get eating within a specific time frame.  But I have eaten leftovers for a few days, yeah me and refrigerator.

Dinner was again leftover pasta salad.  It's not even close to gone yet.  I think it still has a few more days to it.  But I'm still pleased with how it tastes even though it was way better the first day.  The beans when cooked split open and almost taste like chicken.  The peppers are not as delicious but as a leftover it's really not that bad.  To accompany the salad I made a salmon.  As you have seen the last few days I have eaten more whether it is because of all the extra exercise and activities I am doing and burning off or I'm just hungry.  It may also be a phase and taper out.  This salmon is one of my favorite ways to eat it.  I do enjoy salmon and eat it a variety of ways.  This recipe however makes this delicious crunchy flavorful top with walnuts and ahhh, breadcrumbs.  I used Panko today but have used regular or homemade before.

Day 6 of 30

Whenever I wake up without children awake and someone home it gives me the perfect chance to get a good workout in uninterrupted.  Today was that day!  I decided what route I was going to run, set my app to calculate my miles, turned my music on, clipped my running bag and I was off.

I am not a marathon runner but I do run for the exercise benefit.  I have run a couple 5k's and maybe I will run more but I more do it just because it's a challenge.  I do keep track of my distance, time, speed and calories.  I always change it up by running a different path just to provide variety.  Some paths have a smooth terrain others may have a few hills.

Today I went around the block which equaled out to 2.34 miles.  I did not run the whole thing there was walking involved in it today as well.  However, I must have walked to much because when I came home I picked up my bike and went back out.  I usually tow my kids around behind me.
So today was a nice change for riding my bike too.  Losing that extra 50lbs made me pedal a little faster, a little farther.  I biked 4.5!

No the meal portion of my day.  Breakfast was made when I came home.  Hmm, it was a nice gesture and it would have not went over well if I neglected to eat it so I did.
To be honest with you all that grease was so good.  Corned beef hash, a piece of bacon, egg with cheese and some peaches.  I even washed it down with some orange juice and my 25 ounces of water.
I think all that grease must have swelled in my stomach because I was not hungry at all.  I finally made myself eat.  Still dwelling on my not so healthy breakfast I tried to make a a healthy choice. A bowl of salad with carrots and tuna along with a bowl of yogurt and a sprinkle of granola.
Dinner was a surprise attack on my mission too.  Now, I must tell you something serious.  You need support from your significant other.  They don't need to adhere to your diet but it is not fair to put temptations in front of you.  I declare portions of my dinner to be my cheat meal.  We are allowed 2 and tonight's meal falls into that.  Dinner out at Outback's.
See the nice healthy salmon and veggies! Aren't they pretty. So healthy and good for you.  Well this is what came after the appetizer.   The appetizer we always get when we go there. A treat like no other. Behold the bacon cheesefries!
I did partake in some of these. Happily it was a smaller portion than I usually do but this was definitely not a healthy choice.  But, I did have self control as I declined dessert and my sweet tea. These two are my staples most everywhere.

I guess I'm glad I did that biathlon earlier. You just never know what meals are ahead of you in the day.  Lol, I did get 100 +oz water down too! Yeah!
