How Kids Can Manipulate You
Whether you know it or not if you have kids they have somehow (maybe even unknowingly) manipulated you. Look into my eyes.
Manipulate: 1. handle or control typically in a skillful manner. 2. control or influence cleverly, unfairly or unscrupulously.
It starts out early when they are young, vulnerable and needy then works it's way to when you would think they were old enough to know better but for several reasons:
1. New mom
2. Outnumbered
3. Stressed out
4. Manipulated
You are oblivious to the active manipulation. It's not our fault they are sneaky. They can't be capable of such acts. They love me.
I am not a new mom. Well not in the true sense. I have 4 kids but each child is a separate child. Each child capable of their own tactics. Capable of manipulation. This makes me a new mom every time as no tactic is ever repeated by any child or the same child.
TV control. If you turn it on the are mesmerized. They stay content through the duration. Until... you get on the phone, need to do something or want to go somewhere without them. You thought you had it figured out!
Games on your phone. All fun and games until they have called grandma, deleted your pictures or sent them to grandma, called what number or ordered a new app. How does this happen?? Your 5 and know more of the capabilities of my phone then me. Hey, show me how to do that!
Teeth brushing, hair brushing and "I went potty" tactics have been played multiple times too. Some of these areas I'm sure should be mastered but how can I be sure. Should I just risk it and let them go? Walk away when someone is bellowing for me from the inside of the bathroom? What's the worst that can happen?
This list can go on forever. One child alone could single handedly take down a grown adult. I think the 4 of mine are circling me like vultures. They are breaking me down.
The other day my daughter went outside to play and Sophia the First was on tv. I asked her if she was done with the tv. I asked her? She has been manipulating me (unknowingly). I may be trained. Excuse me, ma'am can I change the channel.
I hope it's not too late. I wonder if they mess with me when I sleep too? Repeating their wants and wishes while I sleep. I need to be more proactive and on high alert. The kids are probably plotting right now! No, they are not; they need me don't they?

Sometimes yes kids do manipulate, and sometimes its cute. But let them know and guide them that manipulation is not at all cool. So they can use it properly
ReplyDeleteYes, dealing with their techniques and tweaking them to make them acceptable is all a work in progress.
DeleteHaha, kids can certainly be sneaky. I know mine are at times. I only have two though. I can't imagine four!
ReplyDeleteAhh,let me think back to 2 kids. Peace, calm and harmony. No it wasnt. No wait I can't remember.I think I'm just numb by now.
DeleteOh definitely. Kids can be extremely manipulative.
ReplyDeleteI think mothers of multiple children are exceptionally wise, simply because they have to keep adapting to all those little personalities. I love how you said you're a "new mom" with every kid. Makes a lot of sense. I have to become a "new person" for all the different people I deal with throughout the day. The only difference is that when I go home - it's over. I have to tip my hats to all the parents out there. GREAT JOB!
ReplyDeleteThankfully this is the only job I have to make it through right now but, eventually I will be jumping back in and I won't be able to run a away.
DeleteWhenever my nieces outnumber me I get manipulated. I tell you, young kids can rule the world with their tactics...lol
ReplyDeleteLol, yes they could rule the world. What a vision that is.
DeleteKids can definitely work it. My oldest has her way of turning it all around.
ReplyDeleteWhere do they learn such a trait? How do they know?
DeleteI think for me the moment my nephew was born I was under his thumb like hi auntie you will do as I say (scream) and do what I do and don't argue about it lol
ReplyDeleteDefinitely kids can manipulate things! Your kids look so cute!
ReplyDeleteManipulation is a human tendency. But kids try and then quickly realize what's working
ReplyDeleteIt's so true each kid is different. They learn to manipulate so young. It's so shocking.
ReplyDeleteHaha, "vultures". Love it, and I agree, they learn veey young how to play their cards. Good job!
ReplyDeleteI think mothers are easily manipulated by their youngest child because by then, they are stressed out.
ReplyDeleteI dont have kids but I like to say, "When I'm a mom..." so here is one. When I'm a mom, I won't keep games on my phone so they won't ask me to play on it. (I keep games on my ipod. Hehe) So my nephew doesn't get my phone , he gets my ipod instead and it doesn't have as many things that can go wrong (like pics getting deleted) since I use my phone mainly for my camera. Kids are so tricky!
ReplyDeleteOmg my daughter is only 4 and it's already started!!!! She's one sneaky one that's for sure lol
